Being a parent is very hard but amusing at the same time. No one teaches you how to be a parent and sometimes you’re facing some things which make you laugh or cry. One morning my kid wakes up with a big chewing gum in his hair. What do you do when you see him struggling with that big terrorist in his hair and very annoyed like it was my fault. Well, I start laughing and teased him that I will cut his hair and he will look funny. Then I start searching for a quick and handy solution to get rid of that chewing gum because we were late for school. And I found some pretty great information useful for everyone.

Ice

Ice is one of the effective remedies to get rid of chewing gum stuck on your hair. The cooling effect of ice will remove the adhesive of the chewing gum and this way it will fall all by itself. You can easily remove gum from hair, clothes, shoes or carpets with this method. Place clothes in the freezer in a zipper bag and let them freeze for 2-3 hours. To remove the chewing gum out of my son’s hair I rubbed the area gently with an ice cube.

Peanut butter

This an old remedy learned from our grandmothers. Peanut butter has the same effect over the chewing gum as ice. It’s indicated to use this remedy only on hair and skin because you’ll stain clothes or shoes if you apply it on them. The trick is simple: you have to apply some peanut butter in the area and let it there for a few minutes then rinse under tap water thoroughly to remove the stuck chewing gum.

Because of its oily properties, soybean oil, olive oil, peanut oil, etc will help you get rid of clung chewing gum out of your hair. You can use it if you want on clothing items but like I’ve mentioned above it will stain them and the oil stain is hard to remove. All that you have to do is to apply on the area then rub gently with your fingers or use a comb to remove it from your hair.

This remedy moisturizes the area which makes the clung gum to be removed easily. Rub the area gently, in the opposite direction, to remove the gum to get rid of the gum quickly. Also moisturizing creams are very effective too.

Vinegar

White vinegar is one handy remedy to remove stuck chewing gum out of every item. This product works as a solvent which deteriorates the bond between the gum and hair, clothes, shoes, etc. The trick is very simple: pour hot vinegar on the gum then rub gently with a toothbrush the area.

This remedy works very well when the chewing gum stuck on your shoes. Pour sand on the affected area and rub with a stick or a harsh brush. Make sure to pour more sand while you’re rubbing for a complete removal.

Hair dryer

This remedy is perfect to remove chewing gum out from carpets. Heat will dry out the gum and it will remove its stickiness and it will fall easily. Blow with your hair dryer on the affected area and remove it with your finger. Use gloves for this.

Egg whites

The consistency of egg whites will absorb the stickiness of the chewing gum from hair and clothes. Beat the egg whites and apply the foam on the affected area, leave it for a few seconds then remove the egg white along with the chewing gum.

Lemon juice

This remedy is very effective when it’s used for clothes and carpets because it dries out the sticky gum and it will make it easy to remove. All you have to do is to soak the area in freshly squeezed lemon juice for a few minutes, wash the cloth normally and the chewing gum is gone.

This remedy is perfect to remove chewing gum from jeans but it works also to remove it from clothing items. All you have to do is to place a cardboard over the stuck chewing gum then iron your jeans or clothing items over the cardboard. Keep ironing until the gum it’s transferred on the cardboard.
