The 75th Golden Globe Awards were remarkable this year. Again. Because in 2018, the range of movies, TV series, musicals, comedies or animated films are breaking grounds again. It was a breath of fresh air to watch these awards because of how good women’s performances were. Not to mention, the open dialogue regarding the most uncomfortable issues that needed to be addressed.
However, the most enchanting moments were the recognition of women actresses. My favorite of all times, the Cecil B DeMille Award for Oprah Winfrey. For me, this was the highlight of the evening because her speech was illuminating. Oprah Winfrey used her platform to point out that we need to be more engaged in talking about sexual harassers, we need to celebrate black women and to tell young girls of the world that is a new day coming and the horizon is brighter than ever.
Hence my enthusiasm because Hollywood went to a rough 3 months with the upcoming sexual harassment accusations. Thus, this night showed the whole world how women stand together in a strong alliance to change everything. This is why they all chose to wear black dresses. And they certainly rock those graciously.
Most of all, the awards went to the best movies and TV series with women as a leading role which was the tip of the iceberg. This year winners are The Handmaid’s Tale, Big Little Lies, The Post and The Shape of Water. I also loved the incredible performances from Elizabeth Moss, Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, Margot Robbie, Saoirse Ronan, Jessica Biel, Emma Stone and Meryl Streep!
It was a pleasure for me to see all this hard work being paid off so I wanted to make this list for you to see why you should watch and appreciate these movies.
